Need a little guidance on how parking works at Newcastle Airport? Let’s take a closer look.
Long Stay car parks are usually much further away than other options and typically require you to take a shuttle bus to the terminal. That’s not the case with Newcastle Airport, though. You can walk to the terminal from this car park and yet you’ll still benefit from cheaper rates than those offered by alternative parking options.
It takes between 5 and 10 minutes to reach the terminal on foot.
Take a ticket from the booth when you drive into the car park and the cameras will record your registration. Park, get out of your car, grab your luggage, and then walk to the terminal. On your return, you just need to drive to the barrier and insert your ticket. The cameras will note your license plate again, confirm your booking, and let you leave.
If a 5 to 10-minute walk is too much, check out one of the Priority or Short Stay options instead.
Priority Fast Track, for instance, is just 1 minute away. The spaces are also extra wide and there is a covered walkway that takes you directly to the terminal.
The benefits of the Priority Fast Track service extend beyond the parking. You’ll also be given access to a faster security process, allowing you to skip the queues.
With Premium Meet & Greet, you can park outside the terminal and wait for the valet to collect your keys and take your car to a secure car park. There is a covered walkway to take you to the check-in and free cancellation is available if you change your flight or your mind.
When you return, simply head to the arrivals point where a representative will hand over your keys. Your car will be parked in a bay outside, waiting to be collected.
The Short Stay 1 car park is opposite the terminal building. It’s just 1 or 2 minutes away on foot and it’s fully secured and monitored 24/7, ensuring your vehicle is safe throughout. You can expect to pay a little more for this option, and it’s typically best suited for short stays—it’s in the name after all!
Short Stay 2 offers many of the same benefits as Short Stay 1, only it’s a little further away. There aren’t too many differences with regards to the price or the features provided.
Car Park | Total Price (8 Days) | Price Per Day |

In 2018 and 2019, the Airports Council International voted Newcastle Airport as the best European airport serving between 5 and 15 million. It handles a little over 5 million passengers every year and operates a number of flights to popular European destinations.
In 2020, Amsterdam was the most popular route from Newcastle Airport, closely followed by London (Heathrow), Belfast, Alicante, and Dubai. Jet2, easyJet, Loganair, Ryanair, and TUI Airways are some of the busiest airlines here, especially during the spring and summer, when they provide a wide range of flights to popular holiday destinations in Spain and Greece.
The airport serves the northeast of England and also attracts travellers from Yorkshire, the northwest, and Scotland. It’s not as big as Edinburgh or Manchester but offers more destinations than Leeds-Bradford and Teesside Airports.
As Newcastle Airport opened way back in 1935, it’s one of the oldest airports still in existence in the United Kingdom. It also means that its 100th anniversary is just over a decade away, and the airport has some big plans for this momentous day.
By making a number of changes and improvements, they hope to increase passenger numbers to over 9 million and aircraft movements to over 80,000 (from around 50,000). These changes will also increase on-site jobs by over 5x. All of this is being planned with sustainability in mind and reduced CO2 emissions are also part of the plans.
There is an Aspire Lounge at Newcastle Airport, and you can stay here for up to 3 hours if you book in advance or pay at the reception desk. There is an abundance of food and drink, digital magazines and newspapers, and a quiet place to relax and unwind.
You can also upgrade to Aspire Plus Lounge, which comes with some additional amenities and luxuries.
If you’d prefer to spend your time shopping, Newcastle Airport has a variety of options, including Boots, WHSmith, InMotion, and World Duty Free. As always, the best variety is available after security.
There are Express Pick-up and Drop-off car parks just outside of the terminal building at Newcastle Airport. These are where you should go if you’re dropping off/picking up and anticipating a short journey.
It costs £4 for stays of up to 10 minutes, £7 for stays of up to 30 minutes, and £10 if you exceed that time. Beyond that, it gets very expensive very quickly, leading to a cost of £44 for 4 hours and £11 for every hour (or part of an hour) thereafter.
So, for particularly long goodbyes, you’ll need to head to one of the Short Stay car parks. The same is true if you’re picking someone up and have arrived very early or you’re anticipating delays. There is a height restriction in these Express Car Parks, and they are also not recommended for cars with more than 7 seats.
If you exceed these requirements, head for the Minibus/Van car park instead. It’s adjacent to the Express Car Park and has a similar pricing structure, albeit a little more expensive.
